Did you know? Madhuri Dixit was rejected by Doordarshan
The national broadcaster said ‘No’ to a TV show starring Mads and Benjamin Gilani, as they didn’t like the cast
It has just come to light that way back in the mid-1980s, the bureaucrats at New Delhi's Mandi House, where Doordarshan was located, had rejected the pilot of a TV serial titled Bombay Meri Hai starring Madhuri Dixit.
It seems the Doordarshan powers-that-be had not found the series and its cast, Madhuri teamed with Benjamin Gilani, good enough.

The serial was to be directed by the gifted director, Anil Tejani, a graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
Madhuri was disappointed and was to be cast next in an offbeat film to be directed by the noted Govind Nihalani. That didn't happen either. Eventually, she was introduced in Rajshri Productions' Abodh (1984). The film didn't click as it happened. Next, Subhash Ghai relaunched her with a mammoth ad campaign in the weekly film paper Screen.
And the rest is showbiz history of course. SpotboyE wonders if La Dixit still remembers those days of terrible thumb-downers.
